Genot-Boulanger, Meursault Clos du Cromin, 2022

Domaine Génot-Boulanger was founded in 1974 by Charles-Henri and Marie Génot-Boulanger. It is just across the road from Dominique Lafon and his impressive property, and has been living a quiet life under the ownership of the Génot-Boulanger family.
Today it is Aude et Guillaume Lavollée who run the estate. Aude is the founders’ granddaughter.
The wines have been organically certified since 2018, so quality is definitely improving.
Great precision on the nose. Brilliant crystalline fruit, fine grained despite having quite a presence and punch to it. Lemon flesh, fine salt, plenty of fresh acidity and a very pleasing extract on the finish which gives bite and shape. Clos du Cromin is a vineyard that works particularly well in warm, dry vintages because of the clay content in the soil, and then after about 40cm you hit the mother rock, adding a balancing sense of complexity to the naturally full, open-knit fruit that characterises this wine.
The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of ripe yellow apple, white peach, and lemon zest, complemented by floral notes of acacia, a touch of hazelnut, and subtle hints of vanilla and flint. On the palate, it is full-bodied and impeccably balanced, with a creamy texture supported by lively acidity. Flavors of orchard fruits and citrus unfold alongside a distinct mineral backbone, leading to a long, elegant finish with whispers of honey and wet stone.
